چکیده

Abstract: The study has been carried out to investigate the effects of single factors such as temperature, extraction time, concentration of ethanol, material ratio and no. of extractions on the contents of flavonoids present in the leaves of Tabernaemontana heyneana Wall. were investigated in this study. On this basis, an L16 orthogonal design of experiment was adopted to determine the optimal conditions for the extraction of flavonoids. The amount of flavonoids extracted reached its maxima when extracted at 85oC for 2hrs by using 75%ethanol with a material ratio of 1:05 and 4 times of extraction. The TLC performed for the optimized extracts showed the presence of rutin, quercetin related compounds. The PTLC of the optimized extracts also proved the presence of flavonoids, especially high levels of rutin related compounds. [Nature and Science. 2008;6(3):10-21]. ISSN: 1545-0740.

Simultaneous Extraction Optimization and Analysis of Flavonoids from the Flowers of Tabernaemontana heyneana by High Performance Liquid Chromatography Coupled to Diode Array Detector and Electron Spray Ionization/Mass Spectrometry

Flavonoids are exploited as antioxidants, antimicrobial, antithrombogenic, antiviral, and antihypercholesterolemic agents. Normally, conventional extraction techniques like soxhlet or shake flask methods provide low yield of flavonoids with structural loss, and thereby, these techniques may be considered as inefficient. In this regard, an attempt was made to optimize the flavonoid extraction us...

L-Asparaginase Activity of Fungal Endophytes from Tabernaemontana heyneana Wall. (Apocynaceae), Endemic to the Western Ghats (India)

"Endophytes," the microbes residing within the plant tissues, are important sources of secondary metabolites. Tabernaemontana heyneana Wall., a medicinal tree, endemic to the Western Ghats with rich ethnobotanical history and unique chemical diversity, was selected to study fungal endophytes and evaluate them for L-asparaginase activity. Healthy plant parts were selected for the isolation of en...

Extraction of Flavonoids and Quantification of Rutin from waste Tobacco Leaves

The potential of tobacco waste as a viable source of medicinally important flavonoids like rutin has been investigated. Three flavonoids, apigenin, quercetin and rutin, have been isolated from waste tobacco leaves, and their identities have been confirmed by UV-visible, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. By using analytical HPLC, the amount of rutin present in the tobacco leaves, before and after...
